The city of Battle Ground, located in the heart of Clark County, has emerged as a dynamic and vital center for the social, commercial, and service needs of the central and north Clark County region.  The city, with a population of 22,120 serves a much larger trade area of 80,000. Both the city and the surrounding area is experiencing rapid and continued growth.  By 2035, the city's population is projected to be 37,300.

State Routes 502 & 503 bisect the city at its commercial core. Each day, 52,000 vehicles pass through the intersection, which is performing below Level of Service Standards, and with growth, is trending to perform much lower in the future.

Congestion Relief Project

Over the last several years, the city, in conjunction with WSDOT and the community, has sought to develop a blueprint of traffic improvements. The resulting SR 502/503 Congestion Relief Project is a multi-phase plan to implement transportation infrastructure upgrades, increase levels of service, and improve overall safety at the intersection.

  • Easing the flow of traffic at a major bottleneck and reducing commute times will mean improvements to quality of life, well-being and safety for residents and businesses.
  • Improving the ability to effectively & efficiently move goods & services means more businesses will consider locating here.
  • Unlocking these impingements to potential residential and business growth also unlocks and optimizes the shared revenue generation potential of the city.
