Vegetation

The City of Battle Ground's Code Enforcement program enforces property maintenance, which includes vegetation.  All land including areas adjacent to property such as alleys or easements must remain free of conditions that cause the property to become unsightly or unsafe.

Vegetation Overgrowth

Vegetation originating from private property may not overrun onto any public right-of-way, including planting strips, streets, sidewalks, and alleys. Overgrowth such as grass, weeds, shrubs, bushes, trees, or other vegetation may present issues such as fire hazards, accessibility issues for persons with disabilities (ADA), or other health and safety issues such as rodent inhabitation.

A general complaint that Code Enforcement receives is related to trees or vegetation hanging over a private property line, that is a civil matter that Code Enforcement does not investigate.

Sidewalks & Planter Strips

It is the responsibility of the abutting property owner to maintain sidewalks and plantings in the right-of-way.

However, some sidewalks and planter strips are maintained by the City. Click here to learn more about sidewalk and planter strip maintenance.

Noxious Weeds

Any growth or noxious or toxic vegetation shall be subject to Chapter 16-750 of the Washington Administrative Code.
