Urban planning is the process of creating long-term visions for places and communities to create fiscally, socially, and environmentally sustainable communities. In Battle Ground, the planning department works to preserve our natural landscape, create livable communities, a diverse economy, and sustainable development.
Battle Ground's Zoning Code defines an areas density, permitted uses, size, and location of type of development.
You may now apply for land use applications on the city's Customer Service Portal. This online system will allow you to submit plans, pay invoices, and check the status of your submittal. Application checklists and helpful handouts are located on the current planning's application page. Additionally, you can find building permit applications on the Permit Application page.
Step 1: Go to https://gis.clark.wa.gov/gishome/property/index.cfm
Step 2: Type in the street address or tax parcel number and click search.
Step 3: Find the “Administration Data” table and go to the first row that says “Zoning Designation”. To the right there will be the applicable zoning district.
Step 4: Click on “Codes” link to take you directly to Battle Ground zoning code chapter and select the appropriate zoning section.

Yes, accessory apartments are allowed in all residential zoning districts and are processed as a Type I land use action per BGMC 17.135. The ADU is required to meet setbacks for the zoning district you live in. See an earlier question to figure out what zone you are in and what your setbacks are. Lastly, the ADU cannot be larger than 40% of the gross floor area of the primary single-family structure (not including garage). The maximum square footage allowed for an ADU is one thousand square feet. If you need help determining size and placement of an ADU, please call the city’s planning department at 360-342-5047.
