[ARCHIVED] Battle Ground Police Arrest Motorcyclist Following Crash

On May 21 around 8:00 PM, Battle Ground Patrol Officers closed a section of Main Street when several vehicles, participating in an impromptu cruise-in event, began to “burnout” their tires.  Officers acted quickly, diverting traffic and temporarily closing a portion of the street near the 10 block of E. Main Street, as a precaution for large number of pedestrians gathered to watch the event.

Shortly after officers closed the street a motorcyclist, later identified as Zachary C. Green, DOB 6-14-1997, began driving recklessly through police barricades despite officers’ orders for him to stop. The motorcyclist then proceeded through a red light and crashed into a vehicle at the intersection of Parkway Ave/ Main Street.

Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle were not injured as a result of this incident.  Green sustained minor scrapes and was treated by medical personnel at the scene, and released to police.

Green was arrested and booked into Clark County Jail on charges of DUI, Reckless Driving, failure to obey a police officer, and an existing warrant for Malicious Mischief.

Police Chief Mike Fort commended the officers for intervening when the event became unsafe, “Although many people enjoy being a part of a cruise-in, safety is our number one priority.  This incident serves as a reminder that poor decisions have consequences; we are thankful this situation was not worse.”   Everyone is encouraged to protect themselves and those around them by obeying traffic laws and driving in a safe manner at all times.
