[ARCHIVED] Police warning about of scammers falsely identifying as police officers

The Battle Ground Police Department is warning the public about phone scammers falsely identifying themselves as Police Officers.

The scammers place a phone call to a local resident claiming to be a Battle Ground Police Officer, even using the name of a real officer, to threaten legal action or arrest unless a payment is made immediately. The calls and voicemails can be very convincing and may even appear to be from the police department on caller ID – but it’s not. It is a scam – fake and illegal.  The Battle Ground Police Department never conducts this type of business over the phone nor will they ever ask for any kind of payment.

If you receive a call or voicemail like this, hang up and report it by calling 3-1-1.
