[ARCHIVED] Battle Ground Kids Shop with a Cop

Shop with a Cop 2019

Seventeen deserving kids spent the morning of Saturday, December 14 shopping for gifts for their families and items for themselves during Battle Ground Police Department’s annual Shop with a Cop at the Battle Ground Walmart.  Accompanying the kids were their shopping partners - six of Battle Ground’s finest who volunteered for this special assignment.

Participating children, students from Battle Ground School District as well as participants from the Police Athletic League (PAL) were nominated for Shop with a Cop for their exemplary citizenship and academic efforts.

Kids and their families received a warm welcome from Battle Ground Walmart staff who provided refreshments.  Each child was granted a $180 gift card, as much time as they needed to shop with their cop, and the assistance of a helpful Walmart store associate.

Battle Ground's annual Shop with a Cop, in its sixth year, would not be possible without the ongoing support of the Walmart Foundation.  This year’s $2,500 Walmart Community Grant along with a $500 donation from Coca-Cola and a $250 donation from a private citizen funded this year’s event.  Nabisco donated an amazingly large stocking stuffed with toys and goodies for the Walmart Store Manager to present to one of the children.

The smiles of the kids and the cops, as well as shoppers who witnessed the activities, reflected the joy of the season.

"We appreciate Walmart's support of this program," said Police Chief Bob Richardson, "These kids are deserving and our officers appreciate the opportunity to further build relationships with them and with the public we serve.”
