[ARCHIVED] Donation Received for Battle Ground Veterans Memorial

A $1,500 donation from the Vancouver Emblem Club, an auxiliary of the Vancouver Elks Club, was recently presented to Battle Ground Parks & Recreation Director Debbi Hanson for the Battle Ground Veterans Memorial.

Emblem Club member Jeannie Shields, who advocated for the donation, is the grandmother of Andrew Shields, who was killed in Afghanistan in May of 2008 while serving in the US Army. As a local veteran (Andrew attended Battle Ground High School) who died in service to his country, Andrew's name will be placed on the wall of the memorial. To date 30 local veterans identified by the military as having died in service, dating back to World War II, will be honored on the memorial's wall.

The Battle Ground Veterans Memorial is funded solely by donations. For more information, including a list of the 30 honored veterans and donation opportunities, please select the Veterans Memorial link below.
