Civil Service
Civil service positions in the City of Battle Ground are sworn officer positions held in the Police Department. The position of Police Officer is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the City of Battle Ground and the Police Officer Association.  

Civil Service Commission
The primary focus of the Civil Service Commission is to ensure that pre-employment testing and hiring decisions for Police Department civil service employees are conducted in a fair, valid, competitive, and non-discriminatory manner. The commission may also preside over appeals involving civil service employee discipline.  Meeting dates and times are as noted in the Civil Service Rules.

Civil Service Rules

Commissioned Police Officer Positions:
Entry Level Police
Applicants must first register and test with Public Safety Testing.
After the City receives the applicant's score, they will be invited to complete a City application

Academy Graduate Police
A trainee currently attending the WSCJTC Academy who has successfully completed the Academy mid-term examination and is scheduled for graduation from the Academy within 60 days of applying; OR

A graduate of an equivalent training academy from a state that has reciprocity with the WSCJTC; must successfully complete the WSCJTC Equivalency Academy and examination after appointment.
Academy Graduate Police Candidates must pass the Physical Agility Test as part of the recruitment process. 

Lateral Level Police
Lateral Hiring Bonus - Qualified candidates will be eligible to receive $10,000

Candidates are required to have been employed as a state-commissioned law enforcement officer on a full-time basis for a period of at least 24 months at time of application for employment with the City of Battle Ground.  Out of state applicants must have the necessary training and experience to become certified with the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.
Lateral Candidates must pass the Physical Agility Test as part of the recruitment process.
