NW 5th Way Improvement Project
Project Overview
The City's NW 5th Way Improvement Project is intended to relieve congestion at the intersection of State Routes 502 & 503 (Main Street & 10th Ave.). The city has been working with the WA State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) on plans to improve local roads and state highways in order to increase traffic flow. Traffic studies indicate these 3 project components will help provide relief:

Project Components
 NW 5th Project Map

A Extension of NW 5th Way. A new right-in/right-out intersection will be created that will allow vehicles to enter NW 5th Way from the southbound SR 503 and also exit NW 5th Way onto southbound SR 503.

B Removal of existing traffic signal at SR 502 (West Main St.) and NW 12th Avenue. Access to NW 12th Avenue from West Main Street will be restricted to right-in and right-out. There is the potential for left turns from West Main Street onto NW 12th Avenue. Vehicles will not be able to make left turns from NW 12th Avenue onto West Main Street.  City staff and WSDOT will be working on the removal of the signal located at this intersection.

C Extension of the left turn lane on NW 15th Avenue between W Main Street and NW 1st Street.  This will create space for additional vehicle turning left onto West Main St.
