INFORMATION
  • DISTRICT TO CALL FOR BIDS
The District issued a Call for Bids for Addition and Remodel of the District's #2 fire station located at NE 112th Avenue and 299th Street. The project will add approximately 3,500 sq. ft. of living space to the existing 1,500 sq. ft. truck bay that was originally built in the early 1970s. Once completed, the District will begin staffing the station with paid personnel during the day and resident firefighters during the evening hours. This will greatly reduce the necessity of sending engines and personnel to calls in the Station 2 area from the Dollars Corner or Battle Ground stations.

  • INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT WITH VANCOUVER FIRE
The Fire District has entered into an interlocal agreement with the Vancouver Fire Department (VFD) for VFD to provide support for infectious disease administration. Services will include routine infectious disease exposure education and records maintenance, annual TB testing, administration of Hepatitis A and B shots, exposure investigations and required follow up, and update of decontamination procedures. If the program is successful, the long-term plan is to share a full-time FTE beginning in 2007.

  • NOROVIRUS at CASCADE RETIREMENT
As you know, Cascade Retirement in Vancouver has had an outbreak of Norovirus that has now affected nearly 90 residents. There have been 3 deaths as a result. This virus is airborne and highly contagious and causes flu-like symptoms. A number of ambulance personnel from AMR and at least 1 firefighter from Vancouver Fire have contracted the virus.

As a result of the outbreak, we have reinforced our procedures with our firefighters for the use of 'universal precautions'. For calls to patients with active vomiting and diarrhea, we are recommending additional precautions including limiting the number of emergency personnel that have patient contact.

  • PUBLIC EDUCATION
    • Engine/Station Tours - 29 kids and 12 adults
    • Car Smash - Injury prevention event at CAM High School where Fire Cadets demonstrated extrication techniques at a school event.
    • Smokey Bear - Firefighters visited five elementary school teaching fire safety to over 600 first graders in cooperation with US Forest Service, Washington State Department of Natural Resources, and the Southwest Washington Fire Prevention Council.
