North Parkway Groundbreaking Ceremony recognizes
US Senator Patty Murray and Congressman Brian Baird
A Groundbreaking Ceremony, to mark the beginning of the North Parkway Improvement Project,
was held on Monday, October 12th. Mayor Michael Ciraulo recognized Senator Patty Murray,
represented by Theresa Wagner, and Congressman Brian Baird for
their efforts in securing federal funds for the project.
North Parkway, between Onsdorff Boulevard and North 5th Street is a roadway badly in need of repair. The road carries approximately 4,100 vehicles per day. The half-mile project will involve the installation of detached sidewalks, bicycle lanes, turn lanes, and street lighting. The widening of the road will aid in school buses turning within the narrow portion of the roadway onto adjacent roads. The improvements will provide separation between auto/bus traffic and pedestrian traffic which is critical for school children and pedestrians wanting to visit the downtown area. Most importantly, this project will improve safety along school routes for bus drivers and children, as well as improve the response time of emergency/first response vehicles.
Funding for the approximately $1.75 million project comes from:
