Engineering, Community Development Offices & Permit Center to close for Lean Training Oct 23 - 25

The city of Battle Ground’s Engineering and Community Development offices, including the Permit Center, will be closed on Monday, October 23 through Wednesday October 25.  During the 3-day closure, staff will participate in a Lean Academy to review, analyze, and streamline department processes.

Battle Ground, like many cities in Washington, is being asked to do more with less.  Despite an environment of increased regulations, unfunded mandates, and reduced budgets, cities must continue to deliver required services within existing resources.  The Lean Academy, developed by Washington State, assists local governments in performance improvement strategies in an effort to deliver services to citizens more effectively by reducing variation, waste, and delays in complicated processes.

October’s Lean Academy in Battle Ground will focus on the Community Development and Engineering Departments’ concurrent land use and engineering review process.  The process, a simultaneous review of both land use entitlements and civil engineering, is one of the most complex processes the departments encounter.

“Focusing lean strategies to eliminate unwarranted steps within this specific process,” notes Community Development Director Erin Erdman, “will pave the way for comparable efficiencies with all of our department processes.”

While Community Development and Engineering offices will be closed for the 3-day Lean Academy, code compliance, and building and construction inspection requests and services will remain active and available.  Code Compliance requests can be made by using the city’s online Citizen Action Request or by calling 360-342-5048.  Building and construction inspection requests are available online or by calling 360-342-5085.  Building permits will not be issued during the closure nor will applications be received.  For assistance with permitting prior to or after the 3-day closure, please contact the Community Development Department at 360-342-5047 or by referring to the Community Development page.
